whats the best and most reliable boat/engine in the 27-35ish range?
I went to a used boat show and fell in love with a 2002 35ft
"Carver" I loved the cabin area, and the fly bridge with seating. I am new to boating and im not interested in spending $124k for a boat, so I am looking for a older Carver in the $20-25k range. What do you think! Is it a good or bad move??? I want to use is for family, entertaining, fishing and just hanging out. I will use in mainly in the Md Bay (salt water), but can I also use it in the River? (fresh water)
Carver makes an excellent boat, and they have a very good reputation. They aren't my style - but one of my very best friends (next to me in the Marina) has had a 36 footer for over 10 years now and just loves it... I don't believe or recall him ever having problems with it of any kind. He is on it every weekend with his wife and two school age sons...
You may get real lucky, looking for a used one as with todays' gas prices you (should) find some excellant deals.
I believe this:
If you are convinced or determined to get a boat...
buying used - (especially in todays market) - is smart.
But here are 3 rules... Don't break any one of them, or you are likely to end up very sorry.
1. relax, don't rush into any deal on any boat.
2. make sure "ask for" - "demand" - "negotiate" - or if you want the boat bad enough - "pay out of your own pocket" for a certified marine survey on the vessel - and make sure its results are satisfactory to you - before you buy any boat.
DON"T BUY A USED BOAT (that size) WITHOUT IT!
3. get a mechanic to check it out the motor etc. and...
REQUIRE AN IN THE WATER TEST RUN!
Of all the people I know that hate boating, hate the boat, hate the boat salesman, hate the dealer, regret the day they ever thought about buying a boat... it is all because they themselves did not follow all of the above 3 buying rules...
