Whats fish or animal is breaking my 30 lbs braided fishing line?
I was fishing for catfish,and i got some good bites. when i reel in, my hook was ripped off! I know it wasn't bad knots because i tied really strong snell knots. I think its turtles cutting my line what do you think?
Also, my line was cut about 10 inches above my hook.
The most common animals would probably be big catfish, pike, turtles, or the fish rub the line on sharp objects. If it was not because of the animals, it could of been worn or frayed line. If it only happened once or twice, don't worry about it. It happens to the best of us.
Fishing Rods with AFTCO Roller Guides ?

I recently bought a Okuma convector CV-45D rounded bait-casting reel and I haven't bought a rod for it yet. I'm thinking of getting a heavy rod that can hold 20-60lbs mono or braided lines.
My questions is: Those rods with AFTCO roller guides, I know that they are good for your braided lines for these type of test lines can break your line guides through frictions. Will someone please help me explain what's the advantage or dis-advantage of having a fishing rod with AFTCO roller guides and what type of fishing I can do with those rods? I want something I can use for short distance casting and trolling and can hold 2lbs sinker too for Pier STILL fishing.

1. Your Okuma Convector is rated up to 30LB line. It might be a good idea to be looking for a rod rated from 20-40LB.
#2. Like Peter_AZ said, if you plan on casting (and get any distance) with your outfit DON'T get an Aftco roller guided rod.
Aftco roller guided rods are generally used for trolling.
Because you want to use this outfit for casting, pier fishing, AND trolling, if I were you I'd opt for a non-roller guided rod. (Or buy a couple extra outfits; 1 for trolling; 1 for bottom-fishing, ETC)
Roller guides are great for general trolling & big game such as Marlin, Sails, Large Shark, Bull Dolphin, Etc.
Bottom-line-If you buy a roller-guided rod you are limiting yourself and not using appropriate gear for the various kinds of fishing you are talking about doing.
I'm sorry to say, but sometimes 1 outfit can't "do it all". What you are suggesting isn't impossible but it isn't optimum either.
Let me ask you:
Do you only own 1 screw-driver? Or 1 shirt and 1 pair of pants?
FYI: Your Convector reel was made in China and has a bad reputation for quality and longevity. In my opinion, if you spool up with too heavy LB line and use it to cast 2 + LB weight your reel won't last long.
Most $75 trolling reels don't endure the rigors of saltwater long. Be careful!
